Blessing of Candles on 31 Jan, 1 & 2 Feb

The Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on 2 February, commemorating the presentation of Jesus in the Temple, where an old man Simeon declared that Jesus would be “a light to enlighten the pagans” (Luke 2:32). It is in this recognition of Jesus being the light of the world that candles are blessed on this day, and the feast is also known as Candlemas.

At St Mary’s, candles will be blessed at all weekend Masses on Saturday 31 January, and Sunday 1 February, and on Monday 2 February’s Mass celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Do bring your own candles if you wish to have them blessed. A limited number of candles will be available at the church entrances around the weekend Mass times, and a love offering to cover costs is most appreciated.

Come and celebrate Christ, the Light of the world.
