Blessed Gabriele Allegra, who is the co-patron of the Custody of St Anthony with St Anthony of Padua, published the first Chinese translation of the Catholic Bible. He was also the one who saw Singapore as the ideal location for a sociological centre to offer Catholic Social Teaching as an alternative to the Communist ideas which then gained popularity in the Far East.
