Carrying Each Other's Crosses

Carrying Each Other's Cross

“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

This season of Lent, let us share hope. Some of our brothers and sisters struggle in many different ways. Make a sacrifice and simultaneously touch the lives of more than 70 families including vulnerable children. This can happen with your participation in the parish outreach initiatives conducted by the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP), the Neighbourhood Christian Communities (NCCs) who provide Milk and Diapers, and the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Fund (TTSHCF) which supports patients in need of post-acute care.

All you need to do is give whatever you have saved from your Lenten Sacrifice throughout these 40 days of Lent. Boxes can be found around the Church for you to drop off your Lenten Sacrifice.

Here is a list of what is needed by the organisations and what was spent by the various initiatives:

SSVDP: SGD10,000 / monthly
NCC Milk and Diaper Programme: SGD3,000 / monthly

From Lenten Sacrifice 2018                                  29,110.15
   Amount assisted

Let us together walk in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in need this Lent.

“For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” 2 Cor 8:12.

Table of St Joseph, Tue 19 Mar 2019, after Mass

6.55am, 12.15pm, 7pm

Potluck at Piazza after Mass

SMOTA invites everyone coming for Masses on 19 March (Tuesday) to join in the St Joseph’s Table in Honour of the Solemnity of St Joseph, the Husband of Mary.
Bring a friend along and a dish to share after every Mass (6.55am, 12.15nn and 7.00pm) at the Piazza on 19 March (Tuesday).

What Is St Joseph’s Table About?

It is an age old Italian tradition held in Sicily many centuries ago when there was a famine in the region. The villagers prayed to St Joseph, foster father of the Infant Jesus, and asked his intercession before the throne of God. Their prayers were answered. With the ending of the dreadful famine, a special feast of thanksgiving was held in commemoration of the Saint.

Today, we celebrate this feast to give thanks for the times God has been generous in His love and mercy, especially the blessing of Salvation through His own Son Jesus.
Let us during our Lenten observance, share a meal with one another and build up the body of Christ.

#SMOTAprays - Parish Weekly Prayer Intentions

As part of nurturing a spirit of communion and community here at SMOTA, the parish features the intentions of our brothers and sisters. We may pray for, and with them each week.

Prayers are offered:

  1. For those in financial difficulties and in urgent need of employment to find suitable jobs soon.
  2. For those battling mental/emotional disorders to find comfort, peace and hope in God’s healing presence.
  3. For married women praying to have children to conceive and have healthy babies.
  4. For caregivers, especially those who have been caring for their aged parents for many years and are exhausted and depressed to be refreshed with God’s strength, love and joy.
  5. For those having issues and conflicts in their workplaces to seek ways to overcome their problems with God’s grace.
  6. For all children suffering from serious illnesses, for those needing dialysis and other medical treatments to be healed and restored to health
  7. For those whose hearts are full of anger, resentment and hatred, we plead for God’s mercy and healing.

Thanksgiving Received

Here are some thankgiving letters received by St Clare’s Ministry. We celebrate as one body of Christ when a member of our family rejoices each time a prayer is answered. Let us never lose sight of those who are not able to rejoice, remembering that Christ loves us all and hears all our prayers.

  1. Dear St Clare, thank you for your intercession. My daughter was successful in her interview for a job here in Singapore. Thank You for the blessing, Almighty Father.
  2. Thank You, Lord for always keeping my family and me safe, especially my son who is residing in the US.
  3. Thank You Lord for our health and for continuously watching over us. Thank You that my daughter has obtained a place in Singapore Polytechnic. Thank You for Your loving kindness.

Children's Chapels

At St Mary’s we are blessed to have two children’s chapels. As the name states, it is a place for parents with infant-in-arms, to still be able to participate at Mass and yet calm a fidgety, fussy child.
However, we have found that the space is being misused and abused as a place for feeding and even going as far as turning it into a playground for toddlers.

We seek the help and co-operation of parents, to use this sacred space to help children to appreciate and participate in the prayer of the community.
Some helpful tips:
- Encourage your child to sing along to the hymns at Mass (even if it is just the chorus)
- Explain what is taking place
- Encourage your child to repeat the responses after you

In this way, the child not only learns to actively participate at Mass, but also learn what it means to be a “Community” no matter what age one may be!
