The Legion of Mary Book Barrow runs with the primary aim of spreading the Good News through books, religious articles and bookmarks.
Legion Book barrow in the early years...
In the Early Years….1990s Legionaries & auxiliaries assisted with sale of religious items managed by the Piety Shop (sacristans) and displayed the books on tables setup at the front of the old church @ all Masses. Today the Legionaries continue to run the Book Barrow at the Piazza and display both new as well as second hand books kindly donated. The Barrow also stocks a limited number of new books from the Paulines(DSP) and get some books occasionally from KCBC, Carlo and Catholic Centre as well as from Armour & Wiley Publishers. ‘Catholicism for Dummies by Rev Fr Brighenti & Fr Trigilio (5 books still available at only $ 25).
Today the laminated bookmarks with its encouraging, thought provoking and inspiring messages and prayers have brought joy and comfort to many as have been well received. Also thanks to all donors for generously donating the special handcrafted rosaries and prayer cards. The sharing of one’s talents is a great gift & blessing to our Parish! All proceeds from the sale goes to the Church Maintenance fund.
Legionaries have to constantly remind themselves of the primary purpose of the Book barrow – Not just to SELL Good literature, articles etc but to Offer CHRIST. With this etched on their minds the legionaries have to constantly struggle to keep vigilant throughout the years so as to withstand the pressures and disappointments that arise in the course of their duties. Come Rain or Shine the Legionaries faithfully run their Barrow every First and Third Weekends setting up on Sat afternoon as well as the whole of Sunday till 7 pm. With exception to a few occasions when they had to close earlier due to bad weather conditions. It has never been easy but legionaries who have faithfully adhered to the Legion’s Master and Apprentice System know the immense value of the Book barrow Apostolate and the great opportunities it provides for person to person contact similar to traditional Home Visits which is safely guarded & treasured.
The Legionary (Indonesian/Filipino/English) groups help to keep the BookBarrow running regularly throughout the year at the Piazza from 10.15 am to 2.30 pm on 1st & 3rd Sundays.
Luminaire was started to take official photographs for church events and to document the growth of the parish in pictures.
From an ad-hoc team of enthusiastic shutterbugs in 2005, Luminaire has developed into a full-fledged ministry. Our members aim to serve God and the community with their talent, cameras and eye for the perfect shot.
We welcome all photography enthusiasts who are committed to evangelising through the power of images.
