PARISH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
It is known that Catholics Churches are the primary target for terrorist attacks, hence all Churches around the world are urged to step-up their "Emergency Response" in case of an incident.
The Archdiocese of Singapore has indicated that all Churches are to step up their "Emergency Response Team".
To make our Parish a safe place for worship for our family and friends, SMOTA urges Ministry members to be involved in setting up a team of volunteers (PEPT; Parish Emergency Preparedness Team). This team is to plan the security, fire fighting and first aid for emergency situation and during peace time.
Parish Emergency Preparedness Taskforce (PEPT)
Parish Emergency Preparedness Taskforce (PEPT) was initiated upon a Briefing & Training by MHA / SPF organised for the Catholic ArchDiocese of Singapore via AERO, which is the Archdiocese Emergency Response Organisation.
The training and briefing created an awareness on the importance of emergency aspects during normal and terror threat situations which might create a Crisis if we are not in the Preparedness mode.
The PERT is the initial volunteer group whom have attended the Briefing and Training and are task to set up the Parish Emergency Responders (PER) who are the volunteers headed by the Spiritual Director Fr. Justin, and Johnny Keong as leader of PERT who is also a committee member of AERO.
There are 3 Main Tasks of the PERT, namely: Security / First Aid / Fire Fighting
The role of the volunteers in the Security Task is one of observation only and will not be engaged in any confrontational situation, he or she will act as eyes and ears of the Parish, and reports to PERT or those PER on duty.
- FIRST AID
Likewise, first aiders role is one of importance, as the quick response with the know how and care to address the situation and assist til professional help arrives.
- FIRE FIGHTING
All volunteer Fire Fighter volunteers have different roles; as an example acting as ushers to assembly areas in the event of fire break out, some will be rescuers to help bring any injured to the First Aid Area. Fire fighters will only be engaged in fire fighting if the fire is manageable and does not pose any fatality risk and will report to the incident controller on Situation to decide before the Fire Brigade arrived.
All volunteers will be trained on their specific roles and be certfied where required.
The Church needs your participation to ensure all parishioners' safety as part of the Congregational community.
The PERT & IRCC role are similar in objectives. PERT & PER is an community of Volunteers for the Church, whereas the IRCC is an organisation set up by MHA / MCCY for the benefit of the community of Singapore consisting of community members from various organisations and Smota is part of the community as a religious organisation. We are part of IRCC Bukit Batok East Zone and Fr. Justin is a Committe Member with 2 representatives from Smota.
