Timothy Wong, Saul / Paul

Timothy is a full-time graduate student at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Language Studies.

With an interest in anything related to language and the performing arts since his secondary school days, he has been involved in several school drama productions at St Joseph’s Institution and Catholic Junior College. He has also acted in Angels in America and directed Six Characters in Search of An Author as part of the NUS Theatre Studies Programme.

Though Timothy is constantly inspired by musicals (film and stage), this is his first foray into musical theatre territory and he is loving every minute of it! While he has had experience in singing and acting, he has not tried both simultaneously. What excites him even more is that he is able to do this in service to the Lord in the hope that more people will experience the love of God through the life of St Paul.

Elated to be a part of Paul the Musical, Timothy is honoured to play Saul/Paul and hopes that his portrayal of this amazing saint will be as spiritual to those watching the musical as it has been for him.

He would like to take this opportunity to thank the cast and crew of Paul the Musical, as well as his friends, for helping him prepare for the role of Saul/Paul. Most importantly, he would like to thank God for the strength and guidance He has provided for this production.

This is Timothy’s first collaboration with the Church of St Mary’s of the Angels and he hopes that there will be many more theatrical pilgrimages to come.

JU

Jurane Solano, Miriam

Playing the role of the young Miriam from Antioch is 19-year-old Jurane Solano. Jurane has been singing since the young age of four - in her own words: “I love singing! All Filipinos do!”

This vibrant Saint Andrew’s Junior College graduate is all about living life to the fullest and seizing as many opportunities as she can. Jurane goes by the mantra that life is too short to pass up on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Having grown up in Singapore, she says that its citizens are very fortunate to live in such a clean and safe country with spotless streets and a high standard of living. Even so, a part of her still remains true to her home country, the Philippines, and its unique beauty. She believes that no matter where she ends up in future, she will never forget where she comes from.

Jurane has won several singing contests since she was nine years old, and guest-performed in several schools, local hotels and also the Singapore Flyer Outdoor Amphitheatre.

Though she likes every single song in Paul the Musical, she especially likes Alone as the talented musical director Anthony has put a lot of emotion in the song. Personally, she feels that it is a turning point for Paul’s character, about whom she found out a lot more through this experience.

With the help of director Dennis, production manager Lianne, all else involved and, of course, our Father, Jurane prays that the musical will be a huge success.

GY

Geraldine Isabelle Yeoh, Miriam

Being herself a convert, Geraldine is most delighted to be given the opportunity to serve God through performing in this musical, the powerful story of conversion and evangelisation of St Paul - also a testimony to the power of faith and hope in the Lord regardless of one’s past.

Geraldine recently graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Theatre Studies from NUS and is currently pursuing her Masters degree researching Musical Theatre. She enjoys singing with the Risen Christ Church Cantate Domino Choir at the 11.30 am Mass and also with her friends for a cappella performances and weddings. She is also a drama trainer in NUS and vocal coach for young children.

She has performed in The Wizard of Oz (ITheatre, 2008) and various other musical and choir performances during her Raffles Junior College Chorale and Raffles Girls’ School choir days, such as Vocal Exploits Concert (2002, 2003), Les Miserables (2001), A Little Mermaid (2000), Sunset Boulevard (1999), and Broadway Medley (1998).

Other theatre and film performances include Dramaplus Youth Theatre’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2000) and Something to Live For (2000). She also enjoyed directing plays such as The Glass Menagerie (2006), The Crucible (2006) during her theatre studies exchange programme in the University of Oregon. In her free time, she enjoys her fellowship with the Catholic Students’ Society in NUS, lindyhop, salsa and ballroom dancing.

BY

Brandon Yuen, Barnabas

Brandon plays Barnabas, an early Christian apostle who stood sponsor for Paul after his conversion, and had him received by the apostles. Together, they laboured to spread the teachings of Christ, and played a big part in having Gentile converts welcomed into the Christian community.

An electrical engineer by training, Brandon works as a firmware engineer in a digital storage company. He is keenly interested in home theatre and hi-fi, and spends a lot of time tinkering with his tech toys and browsing through online forums. He enjoys good movies and good music, but will not admit to being an audiophile, especially since he cannot seem to hear anything above 14 kHz.

Music has always been a big part of Brandon’s life. He started learning to play the classical guitar at the age of 12, and has enjoyed it ever since, playing at small concerts, at weddings and in church. He plays for the sunset mass at St Ignatius Church on alternate weeks, and also at some Taizé prayer sessions at the Armenian Church.

Besides a few experimental plays, a wartime drama-turned-comedy and an irreverent parody of Les Misérables in school, Brandon has little experience in the theatrical arts. He has, however, silently wished he was there on stage at every musical he’s watched, and he thanks God and the whole team at Paul The Musical for this chance to realize his dream. He is also immensely grateful to his wife and family for their support and encouragement, especially during the busy months of rehearsals.

EH

Eu Jin Hwang, Barnabas

A supply chain practioner by day, Eu Jin considers himself blessed to have the time and opportunity to combine his three passions: music, theatre and helping the less fortunate.

He has been part of numerous charity fund-raising projects, including a church choir Christmas album, as the villainous Archbishop in the musical Joan of Arc (for ACT) and as Executive Producer and songwriter on Project Lumeni’s Picture of Us album.

Eu Jin has also been in various musical theatre productions for Musical Theatre Limited, including Roses & Hello, Georgette, Esther and Mini-Musicals.

Eu Jin conducts a rowdy troupe of 'Anti-Alcoholics Anonymous' Carolers every Christmas, putting his "chocolately tenor" to good use and doing his bit to spread the Spirit of Christmas.
