Sacristy Volunteers
Sacristy
"...it is the liturgy through which, especially in the divine sacrifice of the Eucharist, 'the work of our redemption is accomplished,' and it is through the liturgy, especially, that the faithful are enabled to express in their lives and manifest to others the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church." (Vatican II, The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, n. 2)
The sacristan attends to the liturgical needs of worship with regard to the cleaning of the sacred vessels, the ordered arrangement of the liturgical space, liturgical banners.
The Sacristan takes care of the sacristy, including proper handling and safekeeping of the Blessed Eucharist, the baptismal font, the holy oils and the sacred relics, the decoration of the church for various ceremonies, the ringing of church bells and general preservation of order in the church.
Sacristy Volunteers
At St Mary’s the sacristan is assisted by a dedicated group of volunteers who take care of all the floral arrangements and various decorative items for the different seasons and feasts of the church. In addition, the “flower ladies” also provide a service for weddings for which a small fee is charged.
