Malayalam is the language spoken in Kerala, a southern state in India. Christianity was brought to Kerala by St. Thomas, the Apostle, who landed in Kerala in AD 52. Since then it has steadily grown and currently 19.3% of the state population are Christians as against 2.3% of the Indian average.

About 0.4% of the Singapore population are estimated to be Malayalam speaking and there are about 200 Malayalam speaking parishioners at St. Mary of The Angels.

The Malayalam community in Bukit Batok area under St. Mary of The Angels consists of the following:
• Malayalam Charismatic Group (MCG) - Family prayer groups & ladies' prayer groups
• Jesus Youth (JY) - Ministering to working youth
• Christeen - For children

All the above groups are rooted in charismatic spirituality. Members of the Malayalam Community are actively involved in the parish activities under the various ministries.
