Communion Ministers
Communion Ministers are officially appointed by the parish priest and commissioned to distribute the Eucharist during Mass and also to bring the Eucharist to sick or homebound parishioners.
The liturgical ministry of communion is a very personal and caring ministry, one of unity, faith, respect and hospitality. Communion Ministers need to be those who respect all people and have a caring approach within and outside the liturgy; who are comfortable making contact with people with eyes, words and hands; who are willing to forget themselves in order to serve others.
The mission of this ministry is to develop and cultivate a fervent love and reverence for the Eucharist, which is the true presence of Christ so that the same love that Christ himself gives may be shared with others.
At St Mary of the Angels, the Communion Ministers also make it possible for the sick and homebound to touch and be touched by God through their participation in the Ministry by visiting the sick, elderly and homebound patients on a regular basis.
Recollection Day, Retreat and Formation are held annually with the aim to evangelise and motivate the Ministers into the fullness of the Catholic faith.
