Let your door stand open to receive him,
unlock your soul to him, offer him a welcome in your mind,
and then you will see the riches of simplicity,
the treasures of peace, the joy of grace.
St. Ambrose, 4th century
God as an absolute power?
This article I read from Maria Legionis and I found it very beautifully written by Pope Benedict XVI. The writing is all about answering the question about God as an absolute power. He is the absolute power by all means that He totaly control everything in our live, we must submissive to Him just as the people to the earthly ruler (i.e rulers often easily make full use of their power, even abuse it). This, I guess become the reason too why many people see God as a discpliner and judge instead of The Father. Many of them being submitted to Him because of fear rather than love.
" We must learn that the omnipotence of God is not an arbitrary power. Because God is good, He is truth, and therefore He can do anything. But He can not act against good. He can not act against truth, love or freedom, because He Himself is good, love, and true freedom.
Therefore nothing He does can ever be in contrast with truth, love and freedom. The contrary is true. He, God, is the guardian of our freedom, of love and of truth.
The eye which looks upon us is not an evil eye of watching us. It is the presence of love which will never abandon us but rather gives us. The certainty that Good is being, Good is living: it is the eye of love that gives us the air to live" (for L'Observatore Romano) (re-printed by International Centre of the Legion of Mary)
