God lights you by the light of day,
and nourishes you with the fruits of the earth;
it is true to say that every moment, the bounty, the wisdom,
and the power of God are at your service.
St. Ignatius of Loyola, 16th century
Matthew 6:25-34 (Dependence on God)
Today talk was about dependance on God, which was based on Matthew 6:25-34. Personally, I am craving to listen to this particular session as I have encountered a lot of struggles in living according to God's will instead of my personal dream.
At the beginning of the session, Maya highlighted the material mentioned in the bible, i.e. Food, drink and clothing, as the basic needs of human being. It became obvious to me that the author of the bible was asking for total dependance on God.
We have to trust God even on our basic needs. However this does not mean that we have to neglect our duty to work and earn a proper living. Instead, we have to know that all those material is not the ultimate purpose of our life. As the verse “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all this shall be yours” emphasized. We have to realized that the value of finding God and living according to His will must be our first priority.
Another interesting thought that have struck me during the talk is on worries. We are called to be in liberty, to be creature of freedom. However as a member of complex society, we tend to be distracted with the earthly matters. That is the time when we start to worry about the future, work harder and harder and forget about God's gift of freedom and joy in our life. We worry about many things, including tomorrow and we start to live for tomorrow and forget about the joy of today.
As the community become increasingly advance, people start to plan even further into the future and so do I. This session reminded me that we should not put our plan as our priority and oppose God's plan for us. I like the joke about being a pilot in an aeroplane that Maya brought up during her talk. We forgot to put God's as the main pilot as we are to engross with our selfish planning on our successful life. Don't let God be the co-pilot! Sit back and relax in the journey to a wonderful destination by asking God as the pilot of our life!

God as the pilot of our life
Hey William...thanks for the sharing and highlights that I've missed for last week's session.
I like the part whereby you mentioned Maya asked us to put God as the main pilot in our lives. At times, I feel that for me, God was the passenger on my flight and I'm the pilot. He's not even the co-pilot, which is terribly bad. At times, when I feel too overwhelmed by demands in life, I guess that's when I was the pilot and God was the passenger. And at times, when I'm really relaxed and full of joy and love for others, that's when God is the pilot in my life.
Thanks for the nice personification.
