This topic starts from valent question to ivonne to write that night experience, after visiting francis and we're eating pempek at velocity foodcourt...

(Pempek, mpek-mpek or empek-empek is a delicacy from Palembang [Indonesia] made of fish and tapioca. Pempek is served together with a dark, rich sauce called cuka or cuko - Wikipedia)

Well... How can you not see God in this delicious pempek??? These few things popping up inside my mind already :

  • Pempek is one type of food among vast selection of food delicacy that human has invented. It's the same like gift that God has given to us, there are lots of gift and talent given to different people. Some are spicy, some are sweet, salty, and even bitter. But not all the people are made to eat spicy food, same as not all the people are created to do charismatic way of glorifying God. If valent is not created for spicy food, maybe he's created to be a priest / pope / saint? *cough cough*

  • The type of pempek that we eat is called submarine pempek. Because it's just big and round, and it dive to the bottom when you plunge it into the sauce (i'm just guessing :p). Immediately i remember the baptism in st mary, you cannot experience the love of the Lord just by looking from far away, you need to dive into the love and be refresh. And you cannot just dive and stay there, at some point when you are filled with the love of the Lord, you will to go to the surface and shout "Glory to You, LORD"

  • When it become too spicy you will stop eating for a moment and drink water to cool down your tounge. When life become too hard for you, take a break for a moment and drink from the living water, when your heart is ready to face the world again, you can continue eating.

  • Part of that pempek: fish+tapioca, egg inside, chili, sauce, noodle. We are many parts but one body. When pempek are eaten with all this ingredients, it taste best. When we come together to be in this community... How does it taste? :)

  • The strongest feeling when i'm in front of pempek is longing and loving, because pempek remind me of my hometown (palembang), and when i remember my hometown, i will remember my first love.. When my mom cook kangkung (water spinach?) for me. Even before i've been baptist, God has put this longing to be at Home full of love.

Maybe i'm just over imaginative... But all things in this world at first are created by God, and it is good (yeah, that pempek really taste good)... When we see creation, how can we are not reminded of the Creator? There are footprints of Him in every single thing. If you can see Him in small little things, how can you not see Him in the person that stand beside you in MRT?
