Hello everyone! You may call me Liz for short. I’m taller than the average girl on the street, so most people have no choice but to “look up to me” all the time.

I chanced upon the Emmaus through the parish bulletin. They were then having a series of talk on prayer (“How to pray” if I’m not wrong). I was rather interested by the topics and thought to myself that I shall pop by one day when I’m free. However that was not really the top of my priorities and I kept delaying my visit to the Emmaus as there will be some outings organised that will clash with the meetings.

Fortunately on 25 August 2007, there was a concert at St. Mary which my family were attending. I decided to skip the concert and catch the last session of the prayer series. I was late and remembered feeling quite nervous because I was alone and did not know anyone there. When I looked through the “window” at the door and saw them seated, closing their eyes, I contemplated turning back and attend the concert instead so as not to interrupt them. Then, William Chandra appeared (he was also late). He introduced himself and was rather friendly. Feeling much better (and unable to escape anymore), I entered the room with him. And the rest is history.

Honestly, I was quite surprised that I continued to go back week after week for prayer meetings. My initial intention was just to listen to the last talk on prayer. Plus, I am a very shy person and take quite some time to warm up to people. But I guess I felt drawn to the community, their sincerity, genuine friendliness, kindness, warmth, humbleness.. Even though the majority were Indonesians, I did not felt out of place or anything – really amazing. I sincerely thank God for guiding me to this community, for giving me such wonderful friends to journey in faith together.

This is an interesting discussion topic, I look forward to hearing from the other emmausians :)

I <3 my Saturday nights! xoxo

I agree

I agree with you that the friends in The Emmaus is very sincere and kind. I also thought that one of the most challenging thing in The Emmaus is the schedule because it is set on every Saturday night! My Saturday nights... it's gone... for the last 1.5 years???

But it turns out I love my Saturday nights too attending the prayer meeting :)

Wait...

Wait, I got that phrase from Elizabeth herself... I remember on Friday night she mentioned that famous phrase: everyone needs to look upon her while she looks down at everyone...
