A journey in community

This afternoon I attended a session organized by Youth office. It was started with praise and worship, followed by story of "a clay" and a talk about growth and community.

Thanking God for the wonderful worship session and an insightful talk, I left the session with a joyful heart. I think I miss the Saturday prayer meeting. I could feel my heart was jumping with joy when singing the praise songs.

Heart of the Matter

Nice article from our spiritual director, Br John Soh, as posted in our parish bulletin 12/13 June 2010.

Heart of the Matter

Dear Friends,

This week we see the commemorations of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (11th June) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (12th June). These two hearts always seem to be linked together but it should come as no surprise to us who are Catholic, or does it?

From the very beginning of Jesus’ incarnation, when he was being formed in flesh from her flesh, his tiny little heart began to beat within her womb.

Thank You, Lord

Today has been quite a long and tiring day for me. And I am pretty sure that some of you who are reading this are feeling the same way. =P Be it because of the long day at work, school, or because of the worries that we have for the future (busy looking for jobs, thinking of how to earn enough money to sustain our life, etc), I believe that there is at least one reason for us to complain about today.

I will come back to you

Yesterday I went to St.Mary’s Church for the Maundy Thursday mass. During the time when I spent some time of silence in prayer, God somehow brought me to a beautiful scene in the garden, where I, as a little girl, was playing with Him joyfully. It was a very beautiful garden with many flowers. And I was running here and there, holding my Daddy’s hand.

I smiled and laughed, just like how an innocent child would express her delight and excitement while playing with the person who loves her so much.

Give me a King, Like other Nations

This is a reflection from 1 Sm 8:4-7, 10-22a, which is the first reading on Friday, 15 january.

This is a story when Samuel was the judge of Israel who was preceded by Eli. Prior to Samuel time as a judge, Israel were defeated twice by Philistine and the Ark of the Covenant was stolen by them. Samuel reconciled the Israel before God and Philistine was defeated.

Reading Day

Last December on 19th we had a reading day organised by Valent. He had brought up the idea to me after noticing many of us were reading books from the Emmaus library and talking about those books with each other.

“We should get together one day just to read our books,” he suggested. He got Abi in, and Reynard, and Liz, and even Irma, and today we had it.

Why do you want to go to heaven?

I know it is a silly question. Everybody wants to go to heaven. But have you ever asked yourself why do you want to go to heaven? I always laughed whenever I remember this anecdote. There was one time a man passed away and arrived at the gate of heaven (as all other heavenly anecdote starts with). It turned out that St. Peter allowed him to go to heaven. But before he went in, Satan offered him a detour to hell. So out of curiosity, he asked St. Peter permission to go to hell for a while, he always wanted to see how hell looks like. And he went with Satan to hell.

The Eye of a needle: Can the rich enter the kingdom of God?

I love provocative questions. Can the rich enter the kingdom of God? The question pop up as I came across the scripture text Mark 10:17-30. It is a story of young rich man who came to Jesus and asked him, what must he do to inherit eternal life. We all know the story, Jesus told him the commandments and the young man replied that he has done all these since his youth. And then Jesus told him,

There is one thing you lack. Go and sell everything you own and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.

Reflection on Rosary and Mother Mary

Hi all...yesterday was the session on the rosary and Mother Mary. Maggy mentioned that a priest who was once a gangster last time, started with saying a Hail Mary everyday and continued for quite some time. Then, he increased it to 3 Hail Marys everyday, then daily mass everyday. So, I feel that I can learn from him by taking baby steps. Currently, I say the full rosary every week but I do hope to say it more often..

The Answer to Prayers

Hi all.. it’s been long time since I came to this prayer meeting again…

However, I still could feel warm welcome from all of you.

The praise and worship was great. I feel a lot of improvement from Praise & Worship Ministry.
