Disturb Us, Oh Lord

Disturb us, Oh Lord,
when we are too well please with ourselves;
when our dreams have come true
because we have dreamt too little;
when we have arrived in safety
because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Oh Lord,
when with the abundance of things we possess
we have lost our thirst for the Water of Life;
when having fallen in love with time,
we cease to dream of eternity;

Life of St Teresa of Jesus

I really like to read books, especially the life of the saints. It is because when I read their stories, there are certain areas or weaknesses that I can relate to. The same goes when I read the life of St Teresa of Jesus.

I read this book accidentally because I was watching over the stuff while the rest of Emmausians were away for Vincent and Desh pre-wedding photos. Borrowed Andy's kindle (because I did not bring mine), I just try to look for a book that I can read.

Let Me Just Want You, Jesus

As a human, I guess many of us will experience that sometimes we have uncontrollable desires, be it in our heart or in our mind. We tend to want something beyond our basic needs and move up the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. And, again, being human, we are likely to never feel satisfied with what we have and keep wanting more and more.

Then, when we (sometimes unconsciously) become afraid of losing what we have, it is when jealousy comes in.

Heart of the Matter

Nice article from our spiritual director, Br John Soh, as posted in our parish bulletin 12/13 June 2010.

Heart of the Matter

Dear Friends,

This week we see the commemorations of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (11th June) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (12th June). These two hearts always seem to be linked together but it should come as no surprise to us who are Catholic, or does it?

From the very beginning of Jesus’ incarnation, when he was being formed in flesh from her flesh, his tiny little heart began to beat within her womb.

Jesus and the Seven Deadly Sins -- Book Review

A review on a book by Fulton J. Sheen, The Seven Capital Sins

Yesterday, I was invited to join the Book Reading Day organized by the Emmaus at the Church of St. Mary. The person-in-charge brought some collection of books from the Emmaus library. Among the few that he placed on the table, a name written on a book caught my eyes: Fulton J. Sheen (1895 – 1979). He was one of the very famous Bishops whom many of my seniors have been talking about and is already on the way to be canonized.
